So whats the difference between Odesi & this one...

Hey, great question:

Captain Plugins are an evolution of Odesi. We took the technology inside Odesi and broke it apart into "modular" VSTs that you can add to individual MIDI channels. You can put Captain Chords on a new MIDI channel inside Ableton Live, Captain Hook on your Melody channel, and so on. Captain Plugins are like smaller versions of Odesi that run inside your favorite DAW like Ableton Live or Logic.

We just uploaded a new video on Youtube about the Plugins, check it out:

Captain Plugins are an evolution of Odesi.

So any discount for Odesi users?

Thanks

YES! We are giving a $30 discount to all Odesi customers. You can get it on https://get.mixedinkey.com/captain-plugins (you'll see the Upgrade option)

Got it already, job well done you guys. But I was kinda disappointed to find out that it only offers Maj/Min scales.

Will you add more scale options like those in Odesi?

Gravatar
Greenfly

So basically $49 for a plugin version of standalone software lol with some clever marketing. Only an idiot would think they are getting some kind of deal here.

Scalar from Pluginboutique is cheaper and most probably will be discounted at Christmas. I picked it up for 29.99

Hey all,

Great, bought the update right away!

Is there a expected timeline for the other plugins to be released?

Thanks!

So much fun to use and super fast!
Odesi is great but this is "too the point" and it's all right inside the DAW!
Great work chaps!

Hi i bought Captain plugins, that's very nice ! great job!
Do you think add a function, like insert midi file in captain chords and it find the perfect chords of your midi, is something possible ?
Also audio files like acapella ?
That's the 2 things i've find it miss in it...

That's a cool idea. I added it to our Wishlist. Our developers will definitely take into consideration when they start working on new updates :)

Also audio files like acapella ?

I've also added this to our Wishlist, but I don't think we will add this feature because you can already add accapellas to your DAW. Perhaps, we could add something to detect the key of the acapella, so that you can build chord progressions and melodies around it. You can currently do that in Odesi and Mixed In Key. It could be a nice addition to Captain Plugins in the future, for sure. I will let our developers know about your suggestion :)

Gravatar

Expanding on the 'insert MIDI file request' I thought it would be cool to be able to have the Captain plugin detect any currently selected MIDI clip and apply any of the included rhythmic patterns to it. So, for example, if I wrote a 4 bar chord progression OUTSIDE of the plugin, I could still take advantage of the rhythm generator section & maybe even save the imported progression to the Captain Plugins database or something.

Thanks for your reply !
Would be awesome with those features !

Others question, i use Chords in Ableton, and when i'm searching and writing my chord melody around my main melody (8 bars), it can only work on 4 bars in Captain Chords, if i want more, it play only the chords after, not from the beginning (so not the 1st 4 bar). So i always oblige to do it in 2 times. Drag the 1st 4 bars midi in ableton then continue the next 4 bars in Captain chords. Hope you understand what i mean :)
It's a player problem, coz i see in captain chords the 8 bars but don't read/play them fully....

Hi! Just downloaded the last version today (CaptainPlugins+1.5.1.1872+(1872)), but I cannot see any changelog to know which kind of improvement has been made. Would be great to know them and to include as a txt file in the zip. All the best.

Thanks for the suggestion, Heraldo :)

We will probably have a new session on the website with the changelogs in the near-future. I will add your suggestion to include a txt file on the installation files with the changelog info as well.

Is it possible or will it be possible in a future update to also play with our midi keyboard instead of using the keypad to play different chords? I would love the ability to play all 7 chord progressions with all white keys instead of using A-J on the keypad.

Yes. This is something that we are getting quite a few requests for. So, it's definitely a high priority on our To-Do list for future updates:)

I was experimenting with Halion Sonic and it's Flex Phrase in Odesi (waiting for CP Win) and thought the same thing, an Arp would be fantastic... But an Arp like Squarehead's NORA..

I agree that there are some overlapping features on both, but the cool thing about Captain Play, in my opinion, is that it:

  • Allows you to play both Chords and Single Notes
  • It's really cool to just play notes around and see what sounds good.
  • You can use it independently of Captain Chords, which some people prefer just doing "freestyle" jam

Let me know what you think :)

We have some good news: Captain Play Beta for Windows is now available :)

So, you will get a download link for it when you get the bundle.

It will be followed later by Captain Chords, Deep, Melody, and the rest of our bundle later.

this is a novel and innovative idea for producers , I have odesi and think it is pretty great. However, this whole windows version debacle is really confused. You said two weeks ago that a windows beta of captain chord was being released with captain play at a later date. The release was delayed by a week, then delayed once again by another week and now we have captain play and not captain chord, melody ect? How will we receive the other plugins when they come out? whats going on here?

You are totally right. We've had some major delays in building the plugins for Windows. In fact, we even hired a new developer to help us speed up the pace of it. The next plugin to be available will be Captain Chords. We don't have an ETA for it yet, but it will be soon. We are working very hard on it.

I am really sorry for the delay and confusion on these releases, but we will make it up by making an amazing plugin that works great on your Windows computer :)

Will the plugins work on Cubase Pro 9.5?

Gravatar
Bansaw

Just bought Captain Chords and Play for Windows. I like what I see so far.
However, I'd like to +1 the suggestion above for Captain Chords to be able to read a line of Midi chords fed to it and work things out, a bit like Scaler does.

Also, I'd like the ability to drag the chords I jam in Captain Play to Captain Chords. This is so that Deep, Melody, Hook etc, would be able to suggest things for me. At the moment I can only drag my Play midi into my DAW.

So, you want to be able to import your own MIDI files. Correct?

Yes, chords so that Captain Chords can work it out what key we're in and suggest other chords in that family.

Thanks. This is a feature that might put a torpedo in the competition for you. Because Scaler does this and people like it. If Captain Chords did it, then it might win over people who are leaning towards Scaler and other similar plugins. (I almost bought Scaler, but Captain Chords just edged it by a feather because I liked the idea of Captain Deep/Hook...)
