In Part 1 of How To Get More DJ Gigs, we looked at how DJs can increase their chances of booking more gigs by building better relationships with key players in the market (club owners/event organizers, other DJs, and your fans).

In Part 2, we will discuss how you can get more gigs by stepping up your marketing game. Your brand is one of your most valuable assets. It takes a lot of time and effort to build it and seconds to destroy it. So, let’s make sure we are doing things right ;)

1. Have a Great Product

- Every strong brand starts with a great product. In your case, this great product has to be YOU. Don’t worry if you are not well known around the world yet. First and foremost, make sure you build a great product that people want to buy. There are countless ways you can do that. We could write an entire book just on this subject. But, one of the most important tips we give DJs nowadays is to produce their own music.

Here are a few reasons for that:

  • The name and brand of a producer goes much further than those who are just DJs

  • Your productions are ubiquitous. They can be everywhere all the time.

  • Your music plays directly in people's hearts.

  • People tend to assume that a good producer is also a good DJ

This is also why we created our Odesi software :)

2. Be active on social media - Make sure you are active on social media and it's easy to find you on sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The club owner knows that you are not a superstar yet. if you were, you wouldn’t be asking for a gig, right? ;) So, what they are interested in knowing are things such as: Does the DJ have a large AND active group of followers?

That’s why buying fake FB likes or Instagram followers won’t do you any good. These guys know best and it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out that if someone has 500K followers on FB, but their posts only have 5 likes, these followers are definitely fake bots. So, make sure that you generate content that will create engagement to your social media sites and that you treat your social media pages professionally!

3. Professional Photos - Your personality and how you present yourself as an artist are vital for landing new gigs. Most venues will happily put your image on a flyer, which from there usually gets posted on Facebook, the venue’s website, and printed materials. It’s built-in advertising for you and your brand. Check out these tips on how to take great Promotional Photos.

4. Logo -

One of the essential tools you need to start marketing yourself to the world is having a good logo. An eye-catching and unique logo shows that you’ve invested time and creativity in your brand. The most successful DJs in the world have customized logos. Here are a few ways you can create one.

5. Promo Videos - Club Owners are pretty busy people. Most of them won’t have the time to listen to your 2-hour Promo DJ Set, but they will find time to watch your 1-3 minutes Promo Video. Videos are fun to watch, and if your video is professionally edited and grab their attention, you will be way ahead of the competition.

In your Promo Video, you have more chances to sell yourself as a complete/ready for the spotlight artist. People are not only interested in your music, people are interested in your personality as an artist, and videos can illustrate this is a very effective way.

In Part3, we will discuss some aspect of the mindset of successful DJ and producers that will directly enhance your chances of getting more gigs.
